Four of the Best Poke Places on Oahu, Hawaii

Best Poke Places on Oahu, Hawaii

Over the past several months, there has been a poke (pronounced poh-kay) craze sweeping across the country.  Poke is a traditional Hawaiian dish, typically made with ahi (not “ahi tuna”, friends – that just means “tuna tuna”), soy sauce (locals call it “shoyu”), seaweed, and other seasonings.  So odds are, if you haven’t had poke in Hawaii, you’ve had some weird version of poke with avocado or hot Cheeto crumbs (yes, I’ve seen poke with both of these).  To help you out in your search for some authentic poke, here are four of the best poke places on Oahu, Hawaii. I Found a SoCal Waterfall WITH WATER!

A SoCal Waterfall with Water

As most people know, California was in a severe drought from 2013-2017.  Even now, when the state is supposedly no longer extremely deprived of water, it is quite difficult to find water-based natural landmarks, like rivers, creeks, and waterfalls, that actually have a decent amount of water flowing through them.  I actually hiked a different waterfall a few weeks ago, and it only had a trickle of water.  But I was determined to find a nearby waterfall hike to satisfy by obsession (as seen by this post and this one and this one).  So when I found a SoCal waterfall with water, I was hyped.

places that Instagram added to my bucket list Map

Instagram is a great source to get some travel inspiration.  As I mentioned in a previous post, it’s a great way to find things to do, both at home and abroad. There are so many adventurers out there, taking pictures of amazing places all around the world.  Unsurprisingly, I have started to create a list of these locations.  So, without further ado, here are five places that Instagram added to my bucket list. Top 5 Souvenirs to Buy in Hawaii

Souvenirs to Buy in Hawaii

Thousands and thousands of tourists come to Hawaii every year. However, I always see them going off with the tackiest of souvenirs, like gaudy Hawaiian print shirts, plastic flower leis, or dancing hula girl figures. Instead, I’ve compiled a list of the top five souvenirs to buy in Hawaii (and, just to prove that these are not tacky, I happened to have all of these in my house at the time I wrote this post – so they are good enough for a local to have too).

The Secret Tips and Tricks to Disneyland’s Toy Story Midway Mania

Toy Story Midway Mania Disneyland Disney
A couple of weeks ago, my family came to visit, so we decided to go to Disneyland’s California Adventure Park together.  By far our favorite ride is Toy Story Midway Mania, but we could never figure out how people could get those high scores of 500,000+ points!  Our strategy: ride the ride and play the games as many times as we could.

Pirates’ Cove Hike: Sun, Sand, and Sea Lions

Pirates' Cove Hike Sunset

Remember that amazing beach in Southern California I wrote about a few weeks ago – Pirates’ Cove?  Well, I went back for another visit and found out that there was a Pirates’ Cove Hike!  The path leads to amazing views of the sunset and an overlook above a bunch of sea lions!!  And, to make it even better, it’s not too strenuous.

Therefore, to continue on with my trend of outing all of my secret adventure sites – like I did with Likeke Falls and Ko Olina’s Secret Lagoon, here are some directions to get to this sea lion overlook.

Santa Barbara: A Hidden Gem of California

Santa BarbaraWhen people think about visiting California, they think about hitting up places like Los Angeles or San Francisco. If they’re going to be a little off the beaten path, maybe they’ll head over to San Diego or Malibu. But there are so many more little hidden gems in California – like Santa Barbara.

This weekend, I spent an entire day in Santa Barbara. Usually I’d just pass it by on a drive from SoCal to The Bay. Maybe I’d make a stop to check out the pier and grab some food, but I’d never dedicated time to spend there. But, this weekend, I found out that there is so much to do there! Being from Hawaii, there are four things that we do when we explore: eat food, go on hikes, chill at the beach, and check out the views. Santa Barbara had all of these, so I was all about it.

Likeke Falls: One of Oahu’s Secret Waterfall Hikes

Likeke Falls
I’ve been missing my hiking days back home just a little bit, so I’ve decided to write this blog post about one of my favorite waterfall hikes back home on Oahu: Likeke Falls.

This is probably one of my favorite hikes because the effort-to-payoff ratio is pretty good.  You hike (or walk slightly uphill) for a solid twenty minutes, and there is a nice-sized waterfall there for you.  No, it’s not the skyscraper-tall Manoa Falls waterfall, but it’s not the lame Waimea Falls that all of the tourists are told to go see.  Likeke is a nice balance, and that makes it a great hike for kids!  Almost every time I’ve gone, I’ve seen a few kids there, playing in the little pools beneath the waterfall.
